A common question that people have is how to clean the different types of carpet depending on their material.
Whatever the material of your carpet, it requires different cleaning methods. Its maintenance and cleaning will not be the same if it is made of wool, viscose, faux fur, cotton, bamboo silk or synthetic.
Wool carpet maintenance
They require regular maintenance and cleaning, we will give you some tips:
For the basic care of your carpet, regularly vacuum it once a week with the softest possible setting, so you don’t damage it. If your carpet is colored, this setting will allow it to keep its original color for longer. In addition, the suction on the wool carpet will boost its strands and give it a new life.
If you want to move your coffee table or dining table but the old mark of the table is visible on your carpet, here is the solution: rub at the location of the mark with a coin. The hair of your woolen carpet will stand up by itself.
Maintain and clean viscose carpet
Viscose is a natural fiber that needs to be maintained often. To maintain your viscose carpet, do not hesitate to shake it regularly outside or to extend it on a solid linen thread while hitting it to remove dust, crumbs and hair. You can also opt to vacuum it in soft indoor mode. For suction, use a vacuum cleaner brush to avoid tearing or damaging your beautiful carpet.
It’s important to note, viscose is a nice material of a very high quality which will not allow any liquid for its maintenance or its cleaning. Your viscose carpet should therefore be dry cleaned.
If you have a stain on your viscose carpet, tap it with a cloth slightly moistened with warm water and a little soap or mild detergent. Note: try to limit use of liquid on the carpet as much as possible to not damage the fiber.
If your viscose carpet is colored, avoid drying it on a clear floor. Indeed, the natural fibers of the viscose quickly degenerate and could pour out of their color on your soil.
Maintain and clean faux fur carpet
If you have a rug, plaid or faux fur cushion, it requires regular maintenance just like the others. Consider vacuuming it in soft mode on your faux fur rug once a week. They have similar maintenance as wool carpets.
Faux fur is a synthetic material that requires special attention due to the long hairs it has.
The cleaning of a faux fur rug is rather simple. Since it is a synthetic material, you can wash it with lukewarm water and soap. Be careful, the faux fur rug should never be spun in the washing machine. It must be hung outdoors to dry in the open air. If you do not have a garden or balcony, you can dry your carpet over your bathtub. Once the carpet is only slightly moist, you can dry it flat.
Cleaning cotton carpet
To maintain your cotton carpet, regularly vacuum it in soft mode to suck up dust, crumbs, hair or even hair.
To clean your cotton carpet, do not hesitate to soak it in hot soapy water (soap, or dish washing liquid) in a bathtub or even in a sink. Note: just like wool carpets, cotton carpets quickly become heavy once soaked in water.
Maintain and clean a bamboo silk rug
Bamboo silk is a rather fragile natural material that requires regular maintenance.
To maintain it, consider vacuuming in soft mode once a week, especially to prevent the appearance of mites.
Before cleaning, do not hesitate to test with a cotton swab the products used on your bamboo silk carpet, to ensure that the fibers of your carpet and especially their colors resist well. Do this test on a small, invisible part of your carpet using a cotton swab. Be careful, if you observe that the color is drip on your cotton swab, clean your carpet dry.
To clean your silk carpet, you can use a cloth or a cloth soaked in warm soapy water (Marseille soap or black soap) and a drop of ammonia *. Once the product has been thoroughly penetrated into your bamboo silk carpet, you can rinse with a cloth or a cloth soaked in clear, warm water.
Maintain and clean synthetic carpets
The synthetic carpet is one of the easiest carpets to clean.
The maintenance of a synthetic carpet is the same as for the other materials: once a week, vacuum your carpet with a gentle suction.
To clean your synthetic carpet, you can use a large volume of water with half a glass of dish washing liquid and half a glass of ammonia.
Clean a leather or skin carpet
In order to maintain your leather or skin carpet as much as possible, avoid exposing it to direct sunlight so that its color does not deteriorate. Also, as with any carpet, regularly vacuum your carpet in a soft setting. If your carpet is skinned, consider vacuuming in the direction of the hair to remove the crumbs and hair efficiently without damaging it.
To clean your carpet, you can wash it in clear water at a luke warm temperature in your bathtub. Then add a little soap and gently rub your leather or skin carpet by hand. Rinse several times with cold water and let it dry in the open air. Be careful to never dry your carpet.
